Missoni:
Last seasons trend of Tribal is set to continue into next season if Missoni ss2011 is anything to go by. Again incorporating the geometric shapes and color print in true African Kente tradition. The collection saw Smocks and Kaftans on the catwalk. A line miniskirts came with matching mid driff revealing tops and apron fronted dresses tied at the back to give shape to what would otherwise be a shapeless robe. The collection looked rather boho meets tribal with a psychedelic twist and once again like with Katrantzou clashing prints are seen here. Although the clashing zig zag print is kind of Missonis’ thing. Unlike when we saw the ‘tribal’ before I feel it has matured and is a lot more authentic looking this time around something I commend Missoni for. Other designers take on the trend such as Stella McCartney and Gucci ,to me often seemed almost a diluted disservice to the bold and exciting real Kente prints made my African tribes. I really like Missonis next season and re-establishes the brands ability to move forward yet still keep brand identity. The collection is very wearable and I feel the consumers that will buy the pieces will want to authenticate the look , so the accessories will sell well for Missoni as they have created a ‘Missoni girl’ for next season. A very unique and bold look
Clashing prints, maxi dresses, rich colored dyed fabrics, bat winged sleeves and kaftans are all trends from this collection
